Lynn Woods fire continues to smolder

LYNN — The Fire Department reported there has been no change to the status of the fire that started Friday, Nov. 8 at the Lynn Woods Reservation.

The fire remains at the size of 427 acres, which covers nearly 20 percent of the reservation, and there were no additional firefighting activities over the weekend, Public Information Officer Lt. Denis Ring said.

The 2,200-acre reservation, which has entrances and parking areas on Pennybrook Road and Great Woods Road, remains closed until further notice.

Hundreds of hallowed-out trees have fallen on paths and fire roads, which is one reason the reservation is closed to the public, the Fire Department said.

Lynn Woods Park Ranger Dan Small and Urban Forestry Fellow Erica Holm worked together over the weekend to evaluate trees that have not fallen, but are in a position to fall, the department said. Tree companies will soon enter the woods to clear the fire roads, allowing easier access to the area in case of an emergency.

The priority of the city and the Fire Department is public safety, Ring said. The FD has been patrolling the area to monitor the fire.

The department is providing ongoing updates on its Facebook page, City of Lynn Fire Department.
