NAHANT — Tuesday evening, the School Committee unanimously agreed to ratify a new three-year agreement between the committee and the Nahant Teacher’s Association.
After being voted in, the new agreement between the two entities would span from Aug. 1, 2025 to July 31, 2028. The decision among committee members to come to an agreement was swift, as they each expressed their ambitions for a positive outcome.
“I would just like to say thank you to all of the teachers and the NTA, for the openness, transparency, and for working with us to reach an agreement,” Committee Chair Patty Karras said. “We greatly appreciate it, and we appreciate you for all that you do.”
Superintendent of Schools Rob Liebow added that the NTA met earlier in the day to vote upon the same terms as the committee. Once the committee had voted, Liebow revealed the NTA had also voted to ratify the agreement, confirming the agreement has been made official between the two parties for the next three years.
“I also want to express my thanks to all involved for the professionalism that they showed,” Liebow said. “I believe the trust, the transparency on both sides, you reached an agreement that was fair and equitable. I couldn’t be any happier than that.”
“As a school committee member and a parent of a student in the Johnson school, I want to thank everyone for all their efforts and securing a nice, open school for the next three years,” Committee member Greg Paonessa said.
