SWAMPSCOTT — On Tuesday, the Military Friends Foundation, a service that looks after veterans and family members in need, gave back to local veterans at their Thanksgiving Hero Meals event.

The foundation partnered with Lynn-Swampscott Veterans Services to express gratitude for veterans in the community.

“Regardless of rank or status, we want our local veterans to know this event is a huge thank you from us to them,” Director of Lynn-Swampscott Veterans Services Mike Sweeney said. Sweeney also thanked the city of Lynn and the town of Swampscott for their contributions.

Military Friends Foundation has hosted similar events before, such as food markets where veterans, military, and families were able to pick up groceries.

According to the mission statement on the organization’s website, its purpose is to provide critical support for Massachusetts warriors and their families, with the goal of enriching their lives through community and wellness initiatives. The foundation is run by former and current military members, along with military spouses, who understand first-hand the needs of veterans and their families.

On Dec. 4, the organization will continue its support of veterans with their next food market event, which will take place from 4 – 6 p.m. at 212 Humphrey St., the organization’s headquarters.

“It’s just great to be a part of this and say thank you to the veterans and families that do so much for us,” Sweeney said.
