There’s something uniquely human about giving. We’re equipped with an ability to think outside ourselves, an innate desire to help out when we can – not to get something in return, but to contribute to that infinite web of humanity that courses through all of our hearts.
It can be hard to remember how natural it is to be charitable when we are often bombarded with an individualism that encourages greed and transactional relationships. During the holiday season, it can be especially confusing to determine when we’re being driven by an inherent love for our fellow human, or if we’re expecting a kickback in exchange for our “goodwill”.
If you’ve read up to this point and have realized there’s something missing in your gift exchanges, something of an artificial din that underscores a larger disconnect, then you should consider giving with this year’s Item Santa.
A mother of two is struggling right now, as her rent prices are on the rise and her husband’s hours are being cut in half at work. Her main concern, however, is not herself, but her children, and she’s asked if Santa would bring her two kids toys for Christmas.
No child should have to spend their early years suffering under financial hardships. With a donation from our caring community, this family can experience the relief they deserve in darker times. We’re asking you, the reader, to look within your heart, take hold of the innate benevolence we all share, and play the role of Santa this year.
