LYNN — Despite heavy rainfalls over the past week, the woods are not safe for public access, according to Public Information Officer Lt. Denis Ring.
Ox Pasture Road and the trails to the Walnut Street side of Pennybrook Road remain open, but anyone utilizing these areas should do so with caution and awareness of their surroundings.
Park rangers will work closely with the Fire Department to decide when the woods will be safe for wider use. In the meantime, they will continue to clear away downed trees and hazards left behind by the widespread brush fires from this fall’s drought.
With the precipitation relieving much of the state from the oppressively dry conditions, Ring says that the Fire Department has shifted from actively needing to fight the brush fires to now patrolling the area.
“We might find a smoldering stump,” Ring said, but anything more than that seems unlikely at this point.
