LYNN — On Nov. 27, the Lynn Fire Local Union 739 and State Rep. Brendan Creighton hosted the Gregg Neighborhood House’s Annual Thanksgiving Lunch.
The Gregg House has hosted this event for decades, serving over 300 children and staff a homecooked meal. Hibernian Hall donated its space for the program to have the event. Through a donation from Healy Transportation, all the children were driven to lunch.
Local Fire Union 739 and many volunteers prepared food, set up tables and chairs, and decorated the hall before the children arrived.
Amari Gaston, a former Gregg House alumni, spoke at the event, telling the children about his memories of the Gregg House and his time attending the Thanksgiving Lunch.
Gaston told the children to give thanks to educators for the work they do and to appreciate the little things, “like sitting here today and eating lunch with friends.”
The Gregg Neighborhood House’s Director of Development Kelli Rowe said, “I believe this event is important because it gives us a chance to show our children the joy of togetherness. We have no idea what each child goes home to at the end of the day, but what we do know is that at the end of this day, they will have experienced a feeling of being part of a community they can call a family.”
The children were served turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, juice, and water. They also received pie and ice cream.
In addition to Creighton, other Gregg House supporters that attended the event included President of Thin ‘n Trim Tom Demakes, Lynn Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan, Local 739 Union President Mario Lopez, Vice President Pat Crowley, and Secretary/Treasurer Joel Abreu.
