To the editor:
Did you know that crabs have well-developed senses of sight and smell? They can see objects from 60 feet away and their eyes can take in a 360-degree panoramic view. Their antennae enable them to sniff for odors. Crabs are also intelligent and work cooperatively. They learn from their mistakes and retain information. They work together to gather food for their families, and they will even help their neighbors fight off intruders.
And now we have even more evidence that crabs feel pain in the same way as humans. Zoologists from the University of Gothenburg are calling for an immediate ban on boiling crabs after studying how crustacean nervous systems react when exposed to painful stimuli.
We shudder at the thought of throwing our dogs and cats into pots of scalding-hot water and boiling them alive. To allow other animals the same fate is heartless and cruel. Please, go vegan.
