To the editor:
On Nov. 18, the Lynn Democratic City Committee voted to make a statement regarding Congressman Moulton’s recent comments.
The Lynn Democratic City Committee rejects Congressman Moulton’s recent comments regarding transgender kids and the election. The results of this election will have real impacts for real people; playing the blame game benefits no one. Calls to the Trevor Project, a group focused on suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth, increased by nearly 700% in the week after Election Day. This is not the time to abandon allies; it is the time to uphold our values and to defend and welcome those who rely on us for support and protection.
Our Democratic platform makes this clear: we believe that every person has the right to live a full, meaningful life with equal access to opportunity, security, and inclusion. We believe that our government exists to empower people by providing high-quality public education, ensuring universal access to healthcare, protecting our environment, reducing income inequality, and guaranteeing equal rights and opportunity for all.
The Lynn Democratic City Committee stands with the trans community, and we are steadfast in our commitment to making Lynn a better place for everyone.
Please join us in this work.
Thank you,
Lynn Democratic City Committee
