From his 2003 Christmas album, country artist Kenny Chesney sings a song titled, “Thank God for Kids.” More specifically, the song is about Christmastime and how it’s the best time of year for children.
Because, what’s better than the sight of a child ripping open the Christmas gift he or she wanted most? Not much, if you ask me.
Unfortunately, as we’re just three weeks from the big day, not every child gets that kind of morning.
“The struggle has been so real,” one mother said. “Being a single parent of three minor children has been very challenging due to me having a very low income.”
Challenging, indeed. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the all items index increased 2.6 percent over 12 months. That includes shelter, food, and energy.
“I am reaching out for help and I would appreciate any help you are able to help my family with, so that, at least, I can have some gifts to open for Christmas,” the mother said.
Now in its 58th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for those in need. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, 85 Exchange St., Lynn, MA 01901.
