SAUGUS — The Middle School Band & Chorus hosted its winter concert on Tuesday night, performing songs from different genres and Christmas songs.

There were 150 people in attendance this year, and the band and chorus programs continue to grow every year, according to Michael Sullivan of the Saugus Band Parents Association.

The middle school concert occurs annually in the winter and spring every year.

The sixth-grade band started the concert with multiple performances. Songs included Hot Cross Buns, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, and Jingle Bells. Then, the sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade bands came together to perform Candy Cane Lane with special guest performer Maggie Leighton, 2024 Miss Massachusetts Teen. Leighton played piano during the song.

Leighton is a senior at Leominster High School and received a full scholarship to Alabama State University where she is going for pre-med. She plays both piano and saxophone and promised to return for Saugus’ Senior Spring Concert.

The first act ended with the seventh and eighth-grade bands playing The Grinch Who Stole Christmas medley, All Through The Silent Night, and At the Feast of Stephen. The Saugus Middle High School Jazz Band finished it off with Up On The Housetop.

After intermission, there was a final performance from the Saugus Middle School Chorus, who performed Bidi Bom, Winter’s Stillness, Silver Bells, and Holiday Road.
