With a husband abroad, this mom needs support

Adam Levine

December 6, 2024 by Adam Levine

Christmas is not unique to Lynn, Massachusetts, or even the United States.

The entire world lights up for the month of December as families get together to the holiday cheer. I like to think you can see Earth light up from outer space, all corners of the world coming together for the Christmas spirit.

Item Santa lends its hands to everyone and this mother spends every day making her family’s life better with her husband living in Africa.

“It’s hard with one job, paying for all my bills. I’m left with little or nothing at the end of the month to be able to get toys for the children,” the mother wrote to Santa.

The devastation of being on separate continents from a spouse is hard enough, but this mom works nonstop to provide for her children.

Our job is simple. Help her end the year on a positive note by allowing her to hand her children toys this holiday season. She is not asking for much, just a way to remind her children how much she works and to show them how much they mean to her.

Now in its 58th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for the needy.

To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, PO Box 5, Lynn, MA 01903.

There is also a way to donate online, and have your contributions acknowledged, just click on the following link: salvationarmyma.org/itemsanta.

All donations are listed in Item print editions through the month of December and into 2025, along with a brief message from each donor, if desired.

NOTE: The application period for aid from Item Santa has closed and The Item does not process applicants. All questions about the program and distribution of gifts should be directed to the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
