LYNN – Jay Brown, an employee at General Electric, recalled seeing the smoke rising from the street after getting off work.

Thinking that there was likely a fire, Brown drove toward the smoke to investigate, and discovered the whole back of the house was engulfed in flames. He sprang into action, searching around the house for something to extinguish the fire.

“I immediately jumped into action because there was nobody on scene … I knew it had just happened,” Brown said.

Unfortunately, the intensity of the flames grew rapidly, making the task impossible, so Brown decided to focus on rescuing the people in the house.

“My first concern was the safety of the people inside, so I just wanted to make sure that everyone got out safely,” Brown said. Kicking in the front door, he alerted those inside about the fire, and helped them evacuate.

“I was just doing what I feel anyone else in the community should do, to step up and take action in a time of need,” Brown said.

“Jay is a true Lynn Hero, and we thank for his quick actions. Thank you, Jay, for your courage and dedication to our neighborhood,” Ward 6 Lynn City Councilor Fred Hogan said.
