NAHANT — On Saturday, the Nahant Public Library will welcome certified coffee expert and chocolatier Kim Larkin to educate residents on the history and health benefits of chocolate while pairing it with chocolate for people to enjoy while they learned.
A licensed commercial “chocolatier” and certified by the Specialty Coffee Associations (SCA), Larkin will pair certified coffee with a variety of different chocolates for guests to try as they learn more about about how the cacao beans and coffee beans transform into chocolate and coffee respectively. Participants will also be informed about potential upsides that come from consuming chocolate within moderation. Larkin will also be covering a number of methods to brew coffee.
Library Director Nori Morganstein reflected on how the event first came back to life.
“I’ve been Director for about a year now, and one type of event people consistently wanted were events about food,” Morganstein said. “When I saw that this could be a possible thing for people to enjoy, I just jumped on it.”
Morganstein said Larkin has previously done numerous workshops throughout New England and along the East Coast. She has been doing public workshops for at least 20 years.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Morganstein said. “I just think it will be a really fun event for people to enjoy.”
Each participant will also be given a coffee-chocolate tasting-wheel to help streamline the lesson.
