SALEM — Two Lynn residents were arraigned on Tuesday in connection to a deadly drive-by shooting on Sept. 2, 2023.

Lynn residents Abel Severino Reyes, 21, and Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16, were arraigned on Tuesday at Superior Court in Salem. The shooting, which occurred on 189 Essex St., left Jandriel Heredia, 21, of Revere, and Abraham Diaz, 25, of Lynn, dead, and five others injured.

Severino Reyes is charged with two counts of murder, as well as four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury. Ramirez Corniel is charged with two counts of murder.

Severino Reyes and Corniel both pled not guilty to all charges and were ordered held without bail by the Hon. Thomas Drechsler. Prosecuting the case on behalf of the Commonwealth is Assistant District Attorney and Co-Chief of Homicide Jessica Strasnick.

Corniel was represented by attorney Amy Sixt, and Severino Reyes was represented by attorney Viviane Jeruchim. The two defendants are scheduled to return to court on Jan. 27.

Several other defendants have also been arraigned in connection to the fatal drive-by shooting, including Leonardo Espinoza, 15, and Darwin Batista, 20, of Lynn, and Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody. Alba and Batista are each charged with two counts of murder, four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury. Espinoza is charged with two counts of murder.

All of the defendants were arrested after an investigation by the Lynn Police Department, Massachusetts State Police (MSP) detectives assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, and the MSP Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
