Marblehead gets a read on Abbot Public Library

MARBLEHEAD — The Abbot Public Library held an open house event on Wednesday morning to show off its newly completed renovations.

A crackling fire helped set the scene in Abbot as guests made their way in to mingle and gander at the beautiful library. Abbot offered refreshments and a snack table for all the guests in attendance.

Guests of all ages attended the event to enjoy the new library. Young children explored different books and expressed their excitement for all the library has to offer.

Abbot began renovations 10 years ago in 2014 with the Abbot Public Library Foundation. Without the renovation of the building infrastructure done earlier this year, the library would have been permanently closed. The front walkway was the final touch to the completion of all renovations.

In addition to the front walkway, the library is pleased with its other renovations that exceed the accessibility standards. It added four new ADA-compliant bathrooms, a new elevator and automatic exterior door operator, and leveled out the driveway to provide easier access to the courtyard.

At the open house Abbot Public Library Director Kimberly Grad shared a few words on the completion.

“Every newly renovated space faces its share of growing pains upon opening, and I can confidently say that we are making daily progress as we adapt to the building,” Grad said.

She expressed her gratitude for the many different parties involved in completing the long-term project.

State Rep. Jenny Armini was among the approximately 50 people at the event and shared kind words.

“I’m proud of us. I am grateful for all the work that went into this,” Armini said.

She also shared some of her personal experiences with the library, mentioning it was one of the first places she went to when she moved to the area.

Following the announcements, guests resumed their mingling and refreshments while roaming the library to take in all the new features.

Grad was sure to add guests should sign up for their library cards and begin diving into the books.
