NAHANT — The Swampscott High School Chorus and Band performed a Christmas concert for the Johnson School elementary students on Friday afternoon.
The event added a little more holiday cheer into the student’s last days before winter break. Johnson School Principal Kevin Andrews said the event was also a chance to celebrate the return of some band members, Johnson School alumni, who went on to take roles in the choir and band, while continuing their education at Swampscott High School.

The band performed classic Christmas songs, such as “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “White Christmas,” and “Hit the Road, Jack,” for the staff and students.
“The whole music and band program has seen great growth and improvement over the past two years,” Andrews said. “It’s a great event for everybody.”
Andrews said Johnson School’s music and band program has undergone significant change during the last few years.
Two years ago, the school hired Band Director and General Music Teacher Scott Bullock, who has worked extensively to revamp the school’s music program to help inspire students to pursue and nurture their creativity, Andrews said. Bullock’s great enthusiasm and dedication for the job has helped reshaped the role of music in Johnson School, making it a more prevalent outlet for students to have fun and express themselves.
“It’s not just a really fun event for everyone involved, but it’s inspiring to the kids here at Johnson School,” Choral Director Jim Pearse said.
