LYNN — The Salvation Army began its distribution of Item Santa gifts to local families in need on Monday.
The distribution took place in the gymnasium at The Salvation Army Lynn Corps Community Center on 1 Franklin St. Salvation Army staff and other volunteers helped distribute the toys to families. Distribution will continue throughout the week.
This year, Item Santa is set to provide gifts to approximately 850 families, which includes 2889 children, according to The Salvation Army. After distribution is finished, remaining toys will be donated to nearby family shelters.
Capt. Enmanuel Villegas, pastor and corps officer for The Salvation Army Lynn Citadel Corps stated that he was “thrilled” for the toy distribution to begin.
“Because of the Item Santa program, we’re able to spread holiday cheer through to the children of our community. Our mission is simple yet profound: to bring a smile to the faces of children in our community who are less fortunate. Every gift represents hope, joy, and the magic of the season, reminding these children that they are cherished and not forgotten,” Villegas said.
