LYNN — This winter, the Parking Department will be launching a snow permit pilot program to help notify residents about parking bans during snow emergencies.
The program serves two primary purposes. Firstly, it allows the city to be aware of which residents are parked in school lots during snow bans. Secondly, it makes it easier for the city to communicate with residents, through email notifications, about when their cars need to be removed from designated snow parking areas.
During declared snow emergencies, no vehicles are allowed to park on a public street or sidewalk. Instead, residents will need to move their vehicles to designated city parking lots. Once the snow emergency is over, residents will then need to remove their vehicles from these designated lots promptly.
Vehicles that remain parked on streets and sidewalks during a snow emergency, or vehicles that are not promptly removed from a designated parking lot once the snow emergency has ended, will be subject to ticketing and towing.
If the parking ban is lifted before 9 p.m., residents will be given two hours to remove their cars from lots. If the ban is lifted after 9 p.m., residents will have until 6 a.m. the following day.
Residents are responsible for staying informed about where their vehicles need to be both during and after snow emergencies. The snow pilot program, which will send email notifications to registered residents about when their cars have to be removed, is one way that Lynn residents can stay informed about parking updates. Another way residents can stay informed is through the RAVE Mobile Safety program. In addition to giving alerts about parking bans, RAVE also gives alerts regarding weather, school closings, emergency declarations, missing persons, and major traffic delays. To sign up with RAVE, or learn more about parking during snow emergencies, residents can visit the Snow Emergencies & Parking Page on lynnma.gov.
