LYNN — Subaru of New England hosted an event on Wednesday at Washington STEM Elementary School to help students in need.
The event was part of the Subaru Loves to Help Initiative, and helped provide more than 150 children at Washington STEM Elementary with winter essentials, including brand new coats, shoes, and socks.
Dr. Nina Cullen-Hamzeh, community school director at Washington STEM Elementary, said 95% of Washington students are high-need.
“Many of our children do not have everything that they need in order to come to school [and] be successful,” Cullen-Hamzeh said. “Washington is very grateful [for the support to] our students and families.”
Cullen-Hamzeh said, in addition to filling an important need, the event was done in a “fun, engaging way,” with various games and activities on offer for the children to engage with, which helps to boost school attendance.
Dozens of volunteers from Subaru of New England were also present at the event, including Jeffrey Ruble, chief operating officer of Subaru of New England.
“At Subaru of New England, the Subaru Love Promise is our pledge to do right by communities in which we live and work. We strive to make noticeable and lasting differences in our communities,” Ruble said. “It feels so right to be here at Washington Elementary with this great community of teachers and children.”
The Subaru Loves to Help initiative, which is one pillar of the Subaru Love Promise, also involves a partnership with Operation Warm. In 2025, the initiative will help provide brand new clothing items to more than 900,000 children and adults in need nationwide, according to a Subaru press release.
