NAHANT — Beloved resident Calantha R. Sears, who died Dec. 3 at the age of 103, has received a Governor’s citation in “recognition of her life and legacy,”
As a means of properly honoring the impact that Sears had on her community, neighbors, and loved ones, Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kimberly Driscoll conferred the citation as a tribute to Sears’ lifetime of commitment to Nahant.
“Calantha made her mark in so many ways, not least of all as one of the founders of the Nahant Historical Society (NHS) and its first President,” according to a news release from the governor’s office issued Wednesday. It cited her devotion as a wife, mother, and sister as well as the years of loyalty she spent serving as a children’s librarian and past Nahant Garden Club president.
“We commend her countless contributions to the town of Nahant, including her work with NHS as its Curator Emerita, founding member and first board member,” Healey said. “Her memory will forever remind us to appreciate the simple things in life.”
Healey said the Commonwealth will not soon forget how the “First Lady of Nahant” acted as a beacon of love, wisdom, and service to all.
According to the press release, when the NHS commemorates the founding of its 50th anniversary at a town-wide celebration, the year of festivities will be dedicated to the memory of its first president, co-founder, and Curator Emerita, Calantha R. Sears.
