The clock has ticked down, and Christmas is officially right around the corner. Still, many families are in need of help. In 2023, 10.4% of people living in Massachusetts were living in poverty, according to Statista. Though this is better than the national average, many are still struggling financially.
The holiday season often creates a massive build-up of pressure for families that fall under the poverty line as they try to figure out ways to give their children gifts. Many struggle to ask for help as they don’t wish to admit they can’t afford Christmas. In 2023, a survey showed that 34% of Americans chose to skip Christmas due to the financial burden, according to Newsweek. Item Santa hopes to alleviate some of that stress.
One mother is asking for help from Item Santa as her children’s excitement grows the closer Christmas gets.
“I have three kids, and we have low income. The kids are so excited for Christmas this year and are looking forward to Santa giving them surprises and joy,” the mother said.
She continued to say she is grateful for any help they get and appreciates being able to give her children gifts.
Now in its 58th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for the needy.
