SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Yacht Club is busily preparing to coax intrepid residents into taking part in the upcoming New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at Fisherman’s Beach.
Community members who feel up to the challenge are encouraged to register at 10:15 a.m. at Fisherman’s, with the plunge beginning at 11. The beneficiary of this year’s event is the Swampscott Middle School eighth-grade class Washington D.C. trip.
The cost of entry is $50 per-person. Residents who participate will receive a long-sleeved shirt to commemorate the plunge.
“We’re extremely appreciative just for even being considered by the Yacht Club to support our trip,” Kevin Rogers, Swampscott middle-school teacher said. “Considering how successful this fundraiser is, we’re very excited to be able to take advantage of that.”
He said the D.C. trip is a four-day, three-night experience for the class and that a number of students require financial-aid.
“This is just an unprecedented opportunity for us to change our landscape to be able to assist our students,” Rogers said. “We couldn’t be happier and more appreciative of having been chosen.”
