To the editor:
If someone can vote for President, join the military, enter into a legal contract, transition from one sex to another at 18 then they should be held accountable as an adult for criminal activity at 18. Saying they are not fully aware of their actions at 18 and therefore should not be punished as an adult for crimes such as armed robbery is making an argument against the aforementioned points. The politicians pushing this policy may have good intentions and it may sound good when catering to the progressive wing of the party but it will only hurt law abiding citizens by allowing more criminals on the street.
Tell Senators Spilka and Crighton to have some common sense and come back to the center. Young men need more accountability. Instead of coddling them, give them a kick on the back side. Being put in time-out for 10 minutes and asking them about their “feelings” will do nothing. A little tough love will go a long way, because for many of them, strength is the only thing they respect. Don’t California our Massachusetts. We don’t need to raise the age, we need to raise the bar.
