Lynn Tech falls at home to Lowell Catholic

LYNN — The Tigers (0-3) couldn’t pick up their first win of the season against Lowell Catholic on Monday evening. Lowell Catholic earned a tough road win 54-46.

“We came out flat tonight. I’m not sure if Christmas was on their mind but they didn’t come out and play that Lynn Tech defense,” Tigers head coach Corey Bingham said. “Hats off to Lowell Catholic though, their guards played well getting into the lanes and they made plays.”

Despite not winning a game yet this season, Bingham knows his team hasn’t played to their identity yet.

“These first three games we haven’t played Lynn Tech basketball yet. The intensity, the in-your-face defense, and being all over the place hasn’t been there yet,” Bingham said. “Honestly, it’s early and we just haven’t found our identity yet, but hopefully we’ll find it in the Lynn tournament against Lynn Classical. Maybe a rivalry game will get the guys up and ready.”

Against Lowell Catholic, Giovanni Jean led the way with 17 points for the Tigers.

With the Tigers losing key contributors from last season’s team, Bingham said he hopes for the guys like Jean, Andy Batista, Brandon Antwine and the other Tigers who saw minutes last year to step up.

“I believe in my guys, I really do. It’s a new team and everybody is in charge of a new role. It’s about getting used to your role and knowing what the coaches expect from you,” Bingham said. “A lot of these guys were rotation guys who were in and out of the lineup last year, now they’re playing a lot of minutes. It takes a while to click and get it going.”

The Tigers will hope to bounce back and pick up their first win on Friday when they take on Lynn Classical at 4 p.m.
