SAUGUS — Breakheart Reservation is on the list of parks that will be a part of the 34th First-Day Hikes event from the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
“First Day Hikes is a signature DCR initiative launched in 1992 when 400 hikers gathered to welcome the new year at the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton,” according to a press release from DCR.
The guided hikes will begin at 10 a.m. and include a 2-mile hike and a 3-mile hike through the reservation. Those looking to join the guided hikes can meet at the Christopher P. Dunne Visitor Center.
The event will also provide hot chocolate and clam chowder from Kelly’s Roast Beef to celebrate the first hike of the new year. The event is being co-sponsored by Friends of Breakheart Reservation.
Other park locations this year include Boston, Rockport, Concord, North Andover, Mashpee, Uxbridge, Gardner, Townsend, West Boylston, Worcester, Turner Falls and Chester.
