LYNN – The Global Deeds Foundation and End Hunger New England donated 80 cases of food last Friday to help combat food insecurity in the city.

The donated food will be distributed by Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) through its Phoenix Food Hub project, as well as Lynn Community Health Center. The food cases contained a variety of meal options, such as macaroni and cheese, rice and beans, pasta with tomato sauce, and oatmeal.

According to its website, the Phoenix Food Hub is a collaborative project, spearheaded by GLSS, that provides a “one-stop shop where individuals and families at risk of nutrition insufficiency can access a variety of resources to help them better manage their overall health and well-being.”

The project was both a response to increased food insecurity issues as a result of the pandemic, and an extension of previous GLSS efforts to combat food insecurity, such as the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers more than 200,000 meals to homes every year.

On its Facebook page, the Phoenix Food Hub expressed gratitude to all the people who helped organize Friday’s donation, stating “this donation was made possible thanks to the efforts of Global Deeds Foundation working in collaboration with End Hunger [New England], and a group of volunteers from Harvard University.”

According to GLSS, the donated cases of food will help people of all ages. Some of the donations will also help to facilitate cooking lessons that will be offered by the Phoenix Food Hub, which is located on 8 Silsbee St. More information about the cooking lessons, which start in early January, can be found on the Phoenix Food Hub Facebook page.
