ROUNDUP: St. Mary’s falls for first time

St. Mary’s boys hockey team tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing to Shrewsbury 3-2 in the Serino Christmas tournament. 

The Spartans found themselves down 3-0 and they continued to fight, but were unable to make a successful comeback. Colton Carpenter and Maddox Jacobsen were the goalscorers for the Spartans. 

St. Mary’s will play in the consolation game on Friday at 5 p.m.

Winthrop 4

Lynnfield 2

The Pioneers were up 2-0 early but were unable to hold on as they lost to a talented Vikings team. 

Lucas Deraps (1 goal, 1 assist) scored the opening goal with an assist from Brayden Anderson. Then Lynnfield doubled up its lead thanks to a goal from Andrew Carbone. Owen Considine registered two assists in the loss.

Lynnfield was up 2-0 after the first period, but the Vikings rallied back with four goals in the second period to stun the Pioneers. 

Michael Marenghi finished the game with 25 saves in net for Lynnfield. 

Latin Academy 5

Lynn 1

The Lynn Jets dropped the opening game of the holiday tournament 5-1. Freshman Jacoby Comeau registered his first varsity goal. The goal was assisted by Kyle Furlong. 

The Jets will face Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott at Connery on Friday at 4 p.m. 

Marblehead 7

Medford 1

The Headers remain on fire, and undefeated, with a thrashing of the Mustangs on Thursday. Marblehead got goals from six different scorers to move its record to 5-0. 

Will Sullivan, Crew Monaco, Kyle Hart, Hayden Gallo (first varsity goal), Avin Rodovsky, and Kellen Laramie (first varsity goal) were the goal scorers. 

Marblehead will advance to the championship game on Friday where it will face Medfield after the Warriors defeated Gloucester 3-2 in double overtime.
