SAUGUS — Thursday night, a car burst into flames on the side of Route 107 near the Revere line, causing highway traffic to be at a standstill.
According to the Saugus Fire Department, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. The vehicle’s owner was presumably still on the scene, and the Revere Police Department shut down the Northbound side of the highway.
Due to Route 107 being a state road, MassDOT also arrived on the scene to clean up and salt the road after the Fire Department put out the fire.
One witness reported that they could feel the heat of the fire from their car as they drove by, and that loud popping noises could also be heard. However, they could not visibly see any possible vehicle owners or passengers anywhere near the vehicle.
