After Friday’s wins in the Walter J. Boverini tournament held at St. Mary’s, the Lynn Classical and Lynn English girls basketball teams will square off for the second time in a month on Saturday.
Classical defeated Lynn Tech, 70-54, while English took down KIPP Academy, 64-9. Come Saturday’s title game at 2 p.m., the Lady Bulldogs look to avenge a 46-41 loss to the Lady Rams from earlier this month.
Classical’s Divine Egbuta (14 field goals) netted 32 points to lead Classical on Friday. Savannah Tang chipped in with 10 points, while Nevaeh Eth added nine. Tech was led by Jaylianniez Beauchamp (13 points) and Allison Morales (12).
“It’s always nice to get to the championship game of this Boverini tournament,” said Classical coach Tom Sawyer. “It’s great and it’s good for the kids. They love this environment.”
Leading the way for English were Amara Flores (18 points), Jayleen Novas-Rivera (15), and Jayliana Concepcion (12).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. Mary’s 60
Dracut 39
With Bella Owumi (16 points) and Charleigh Green (15) taking over offensively, St. Mary’s is moving on to Sunday’s Murphy Christmas Tournament final. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. against Worcester South, a Division 2 state finalist last winter.
Bishop Fenwick 44
Silver Lake Regional 35
The Lady Crusaders (3-0) advanced to the final of the Sue Rivard Holiday Tournament with a road win Friday, thanks to the one-two offensive punch of Caitlyn Boyle (19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists) and Celia Neilson (17 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks).
Leading 16-13 at halftime, Fenwick poured it on in the second half, outscoring Silver Lake 28-12 to put the game away.
“We came out strong in the first few minutes, then played poorly the rest of the first half, but we played really solid in the second half with really good defense and good ball movement offensively,” said Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis.
Sienna Mancinelli chipped in six points, while Kyleigh Pidgeon added two. Fenwick only scored 11 baskets, but sharpshooting from Boyle (11-of-15) and Neilson (9-of-12) at the free-throw line was too much for Silver Lake to overcome. Caroline Perry (5 rebounds) and Abby Jenkins (4) were strong on the glass. Fenwick takes on Walpole on Saturday (TBD).
