LYNN – One person was hospitalized after a fire on Lewis Street on Saturday.
According to the Lynn Fire Department, the fire was first reported at 11:43 a.m. through a 911 call. The fire occurred at a three-story, six-family residential building on 104 Lewis St.
The fire originated from one unit on the third floor. During a search of the building, one unconscious male occupant was found not breathing. The victim was pulled from the building and resuscitated prior to their arrival at Salem Hospital. As of Sunday, further details about the victim’s condition are not known.
Within one hour, the fire was under control. It was also able to be contained within one single unit, although other units were affected by smoke and water damage. No firefighters suffered any injuries.
“The fire was contained to a single unit on the 3rd floor. It was a coordinated fire attack that allowed the men to work quickly to make sure the fire did not spread beyond that single unit, all while being able to search for victims, [where] they did find one,” Lynn Fire Department Public Information Officer Lt. Denis Ring stated.
“Smoke detectors and early 911 notification of the fire from other occupants in the building certainly played a role as well. We can not stress the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every home,” Ring added.
The incident is being investigated by the Lynn Fire Investigation Unit, Lynn Police, and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
