NAHANT — The Nahant Police Department announced Monday that retired Sgt. Arthur Collins died Dec. 24, at the age of 96.
Collins served the department with bravery and loyalty throughout his 30 years of service, the department said in the announce met.
He was born on March 7, 1928, in Lynn, where he was raised and began working at a young age. Prior to joining the department, Collins worked for Northshore Lobster Company and Belmont Radio and TV, where he was able to hone his skills as a technician. His experience with electronics led to Collins working on government contracts in Boston, as well as a supervisor role at Laboratory Electronics.
Collins was married to his wife Claire of 60 years. Together they raised three children: Stephen, Michael and Colleen.
Collins later joined the Nahant Police Department so that he could be closer to his home and raise his family, rising to the rank of Sergeant before retiring.
After he retired, Collins moved to Fort Myers, Florida, at which point he worked security for the Boston Red Sox spring training clubhouse, as well as the Big M Casino boat. He was passionate about spending as much time with family as possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur’s honor to St. Jude’s Hospital.
