It’s early into the basketball season but the Swampscott boys team moved to 4-0 after a convincing 71-29 win over Mystic Valley on the road.
Connor Chiarello and Teddy O’Neill scored 14 points apiece to lead the Big Blue in scoring. Dean Collins added 11 points, while teammate Sam Moscoso chipped in with eight.
The Big Blue’s next game will be on the road when they travel to Saugus for a matchup against the Sachems on Monday with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs lost on home court on Monday evening. The Bulldogs got the game to within three in the fourth quarter but couldn’t close out the game.
After a 24-performance over the weekend, Bulldogs guard Amara Flores continued to have the hot hand finishing with a game-high 25 points.
Essex Tech’s Thais Dos Santos led the Hawks with 21 points.

The Jets get back to winning ways with a shutout victory over Leominster.
AJ Lopez scored the game-winner which was assisted by Tyler Whitten and Marc Poste. Goaltender Nicholas Denino registered 26 saves to keep Leominster off the scoreboard.
The win moves the Jets to 3-3 on the season.
GIRLS HOCKEY

Beverly 1
PLNR started off strong thanks to a first-period goal from Ava Buckley which was assisted by Erin Dee and Daniella White to give PLNR a 1-0 lead going into the second period.
Then in the second period, PLNR exploded for three goals. Buckley, Shirley Whitmore, and Eleni Spack all added goals to make it 4-0.
PLNR added a fifth in the final period from Chloe Gromko while Beverly added a consolation through Avery LeBlanc to make it 5-1.

It was a tough afternoon for the Spartans who had trouble getting past Arlington’s netminder.
St. Mary’s will look to bounce back on Saturday at home when it takes on Bishop Stang at 4 p.m.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Peabody girls track and field team took home first place in the Northeastern Conference Freshman/Sophomore meet in Gloucester on Monday morning. The Tanners scored 99 points which was good enough for gold.
Lauren Foley crossed the finish line first in the 600m race with a 1:48.46 time. Marblehead duo Margaret Miller (1:50.67) and Norah Walsh (1:57.78) rounded the top three.
Marblehead girls finished second with 56 points, with traditional rivals Swampscott taking third with 49 points.
On the boy’s side, Swampscott claimed gold with 93 points, narrowly defeating Marblehead who finished with 89 points. The Tanners finished in third place with 52 points.
In the 4×400 relays, the Big Blue cruised to victory with Miles Brown, Anthony Colella, Kaezyhani Francis, and Holden Hersey finishing the race in 3:57.75. Behind them were the Tanners who crossed the line with a time of 4:12.53, while the Magicians placed third with a 4:14.21.
