SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Recreation Department recently announced the three winning houses of the town’s annual “Light up Swampscott” contest.

The contest was a chance for residents to spread some holiday cheer among the community with a spectacle of fun and a blaze of Christmas lights. From Dec. 12 to Dec. 19, residents were tasked with creating a unique, catchy Christmas-themed makeover in the hopes of making the top three finalists.

There were many houses throughout Swampscott that participated in this year’s contest, but ultimately it was only three houses that could finally claim victory. According to Swampscott Recreation, the three winners were 38 Sheridan Rd, 29 Bristol Ave., and 3 Lexington Circle, which was designated as “People’s Choice” as the top house for this year’s contest.

Winners of this year’s event received gift-cards to local restaurants.

For “People’s Choice” winner, Jocelyn Cook, she intends on using her victory to “pay it forward” for somebody in need this holiday season. Cook announced on Facebook that she’s planning on hosting a drawing, where she’ll give away her $25 Perwinkles gift card, which she won as one of the contest’s victors.

“I loved decorating this year and seeing all the smiles along the way as I worked to create a real-life gingerbread house,” Cook said in a Facebook post. “I do it just for fun, so I’d love to pay forward my winning $25 gift card to Perwinkles  to someone needing a little extra joy as we enter a New Year.”
