Six goals typically win you a hockey game. Add tight defense and a hot goaltender, and it’ll do the trick. Lynnfield’s boys hockey team defeated Gloucester, 6-2, at McVann-O’Keefe Rink on Wednesday.
Owen Considine led the noontime matinee with a hat-trick, while goalie Michael Marenghi stood strong with 30 saves against 32 shots. The defense did its job as well with 18 blocked shots.
Also contributing were Nick Kelter (2 goals), Lucas Deraps (goal, assist), and Andrew Carbone (2 assists). Seven Pioneers compiled points.

St. Mary’s 0
Despite a star performance from netminder Matthew Smith Jr. (30 saves), the Spartans met their match in host Xaverian. St. Mary’s fought hard – firing 25 shots on goal compared to Xaverian’s 28 – but couldn’t tuck an equalizer.
“We were a bit sluggish today,” said St. Mary’s coach Matthew Smith Sr. “Pucks were not bouncing our way – very little grade-A chances.”
