After reading Steve Krause’s Commentary (A dark cloud will forever hang over 2024) in the New Year’s Day edition of the Item, I felt it reinforces how important a local newspaper is. For those that may have missed it because of the Holiday it is well worth looking it up.
The commentary is not about lost elections, or sporting events, it is about lives lost tragically much too early. Steve suffered the loss of a childhood friend and the friend’s family shortly before Thanksgiving. It drives home the message that one should hug those they love at every goodbye; one never knows when their loved ones will ever be seen again.
I commend Steve for writing what must have been a very difficult column, and I thank Publisher Ted Grant for giving him the space it deserved. I attended a meeting with Steve a few days before he was starting that vacation, he was very excited to start the trip in a few days with his lifetime buddy.
Steve, our hearts go out to you and the Dore’s family.
