Salem State University welcomed 10 high school boys basketball teams to the Twohig Gymnasium on Sunday. Among them were Lynn Classical and Lynn English.
Classical (5-3) faced a narrow halftime deficit, but took down Revere, 64-51, in the morning with a triple-double coming from Rolky Brea Arias (24 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists). Also contributing were DJ Reynolds (14 points, 2 steals) and Shy Babb (13 points, 9 rebounds). The Rams led, 44-42, after three quarters, but took over in the fourth quarter for the second consecutive game.
In English’s 6 p.m. matchup against Lawrence, the Bulldogs (5-4) fell, 70-64, despite a late comeback. They trailed by 20 after three quarters before making things interesting. Denzell Guillen led English with 16 points, while Marvin Perkins added 15.

The Headers (6-1-1), last season’s Division 3 state champions, had their hands full at Salem State on Saturday. The Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott co-op (3-3) put up a fight with Nick Muse scoring in the third period and Dom Pappalardo making 23 saves, but it wasn’t enough. Marblehead goals came from Kyle Hart, Avin Rodovsky, and London McDonald, while Leo Burdge made eight saves.

With netminder Matthew Smith Jr. recording a 22-save shutout, the Spartans gave the Shamrocks some bad luck at Connery Rink in Lynn. JJ Avery, Maddox Jacobsen, and Nick Thornton were the goal-scorers, while Thornton, Stephen Nason (2 assists), Jaiden Driscoll, and Chase Collins dished out assists.

Despite a lone goal from Alyssa Norden, the Spartans were on the wrong end of the scoreboard on Saturday. They return to action Wednesday in a home game against Archbishop Williams with puck-drop slated for 6 p.m.
WRESTLING
Marblehead-Swampscott went 1-2 in “a tough quad,” according to coach Michael Stamison, whose team faced off against Plymouth South, Bridgewater-Raynham, and host North Attleborough on Saturday. The Black and Blue defeated Plymouth South, 46-34, with wins coming from Jaymes Carey, Eva Goodman (first varsity win), Liam O’Brien, Gary Podstrelov, Clive Connolly, Mason Hinshaw, Colin Hart, and Justin Gonzalez.
“This was a very good measuring-stick day as it shows where we are at against some top teams in our division,” Stamison said. “We will keep this event for next year as it is such a good barometer.”

Despite a loss on Saturday, St. Mary’s had plenty of positives against Cardinal Spellman. Isabella Morillo finished first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, securing her spot in sectionals and states in both events. Sixth grader Savanna Reynosa finished second in the 200 individual medley, while Travis Smith took first in the 50 freestyle. Shelia Pimentel (3rd, 500 freestyle) and Luka Kukolj (3rd, 100 breaststroke) also impressed.
