Lynn crime statistics show an overall decline

LYNN — While there were 1,805 reported crimes in the city in 2024, the total number of incidents fell by 13% over the past year. Domestic incidents also decreased by 12%, according to statistics provided by the Lynn Police Department. 

The number of murders in the city fell by 67%. 2023 saw six murders committed. Only two were reported in 2024.

Incidents of both commercial and street robbery decreased as well. There were eight commercial robberies this past year, 13% less than 2023. Street robberies also fell by 7%. The number of residential burglaries showed a significant decline of 19%, though commercial burglaries increased by 19%. 

Aggravated assault was only down by 1%. The Police Department reported 371 aggravated assaults with dangerous weapons this past year, only a single incident less than the 372 committed in 2023. The number of aggravated assaults with firearms showed a similar decline: 40 were reported in 2024 compared with 41 in 2023. 

Several crime statistics showed a slight increase. The Police Department reported 50 incidents of rape in 2024, up from 48 in 2023.  

Car break-ins also ticked up slightly, with 210 occurring in 2024 compared to 209 in 2023. Motor vehicle theft, however, went down by 14%. 

Shoplifting also saw a sharp decline in the statistics, with 132 reported occurrences compared with 156 in 2023.
