NAHANT — The students of Johnson Elementary School are headed to town hall for a winter concert where they will perform a trove of classic songs for the community, according to Principal Kevin Andrews.
The concert, which kicks off Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m., will feature performances from students in grades 4-6, Andrews said. “Out of the 43 students among the three different grades, 28 of them will be performing in the concert,” he added.
“The students will be taking some older, more classic songs that people know and love, and they’re gonna bring a more ‘modern feel’ to them,” Andrews went on to say. “It’s something exciting for our musicians.”
In past performances, the Johnson Elementary students have integrated an assortment of instruments, like bells and chimes, while donning simple costumes to enhance their musical selections. They have been led by music teacher Scott Bullock, who received his training at the New England Conservatory and has previously led school bands in Medford.
Andrews expects that at least 100 people will come out for the concert. “We really encourage everyone in the community to come down to town hall and attend,” he said. “Everybody is more than welcome to come, whether or not they have a child who’s a student. It’s a lot of fun for everyone involved.”
The school’s music program is supported with funding from the Nahant Education Foundation, Andrews said.
