NAHANT — The students of Johnson Elementary School are eagerly anticipating the 50th anniversary of the Nahant Historical Society (NHS).
On Thursday morning, the whole school will gather in the auditorium to recite the poem “Yes for Nahant” as a way of commemorating the NHS’ golden anniversary. Principal Kevin Andrews described the event as a great opportunity to encourage both creativity and compassion for the town.
The mission of NHS is “to acquire, preserve, and interpret artifacts of Nahant” by “illustrating its history, prehistory, and of the people associated with it for the enjoyment, education and enrichment of the public,” according to the organization’s website.
“I think it’s wonderful for students to take advantage of the resources they have at hand,” Andrews said. “It also gives our students a great reason for learning that’s bigger than just school. It helps teach them about the history of their town.”
