To the editor:
Regarding the Lynn Charter Review Committee:
I commend anyone who takes the time to attend city meetings and voice their recommendations or concerns. By doing so, city officials can hear your input and take the necessary steps to address the issues at hand.
That said, as the old saying goes, you can’t please everyone.
I’d like to address Mr. François’ comments about the city government being made up of politicians and insiders. Yes, he’s correct—any elected official is considered a politician. May I suggest he look up the definition and duties of a politician? Doing so will clarify their responsibilities and obligations.
As for the lack of Asians or younger members, I encourage him to take a closer look at the City Council. Lynn, a city of over 100,000 residents, is more diverse than most communities on the North Shore.
In many cases, governments, companies, and organizations have individuals who make final decisions. That’s just the way it is—and will likely remain. Some people will agree with those decisions, and others won’t. For example, consider the decisions made at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Regarding “insiders,” let’s not compare city officials to the building on Constitution Avenue to the north and Independence Avenue to the south in Washington, D.C. If you want to see real insiders, there’s your example. Take your time, do your homework, and decide for yourself.
Surprise!
