SWAMPSCOTT — ReachArts announced on Facebook yesterday that Heidi Shear, the organization’s co-president, passed away on Jan. 1 at age 66.
“Heidi was the leading light of our organization, a truly kind individual and inspirational leader,” ReachArts said in the post. “Her loss leaves us with immense sadness. We are grateful for all that Heidi has done for the Swampscott community.”
Born in 1958, Shear thrived as a young student and possessed a passion for tennis and dancing. She was an avid music fan and loved to see live bands such as The Who and The Police. She majored in political science at Tufts University. From there, she continued her education by attending law school at Boston University, where she earned a master’s degree in tax law.
After raising her children with her devoted husband, David, Heidi retired and relocated to Swampscott, which had been David’s birthplace. There she became an active participant in the community. In addition to her service with ReachArts, she was also elected as a member of town meeting. Shear also served on boards for the Jewish Journal, Women’s Research Center at Brandeis University, and the Metrowest Women’s Fund.
“With Heidi’s passing, ReachArts has lost a compassionate and fearless leader, and a tireless advocate for making our community a more accepting and embracing place for all,” ReachArts board member Ingrid Pichler said.
