To the editor:
In the page one article published in The Daily Item, it is unfortunate that an elected official would make a baseless claim about whether Dick Dalton followed the appropriate rules to pull papers to run for office. He pulled papers in the appropriate manner and on the correct day, adhering to the established rules.
Just as the School Committee sets rules for all students to follow, it’s crucial that our elected leaders stick to the guidelines laid out for any process. Dick Dalton’s attention to following the rules is a great example of how important it is to respect the structure in place, ensuring fairness and consistency for everyone involved, for both elected and aspiring candidates.
It would be my hope that an elected official would simply acknowledge if a rule was not properly adhered to during the process. Rather than point fingers, make baseless claims or downplay the situation, accountability should be the ultimate goal of any leader in our town.
