NAHANT — The Nahant Historical Society (NHS) is gearing up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding on Jan. 19.
“On Jan. 19, 1975, the Nahant Historical Society was officially incorporated through the work of a dedicated group of volunteers,” NHS Executive Director Julie Tarmy said. “In 2025, we will invite the townspeople to join in as we celebrate Nahant’s past with an eye toward the future.”
This year, the organization’s festivities will be dedicated to beloved Nahant icon Calantha Sears, one of the original founders, past president and curator emerita of the NHS. Sears passed away on Dec. 3, 2024.
The organization is currently in the early stages of planning a year-long calendar filled with music, poetry, literature and personal stories reflecting Nahant’s unique history, according to the press release.
The NHS has worked diligently over the past half-century to show the colorful history of the town through many different events, such as art shows, book signings, lectures and exhibitions, the press release states.
“The society was founded because of our community’s vital need to preserve and interpret the history of Nahant and its people for the enjoyment, education and enrichment of the public,” Tarmy said. “We are excited to bring this history to life throughout 2025 as we commemorate its founding.”
