You know what I’ve been thinking? Things are cooking at Lynn English High, and one of its chefs has been on a tear.
The girls basketball team has won four consecutive games – Revere, Everett, Chelsea, Medford – with three double-digit victories. Second-year coach Sydney Brennan and her Lady Bulldogs (6-6) have climbed all the way back to .500 after beginning the season 2-6.
Leading the offense has been senior captain Amara Flores, who averaged 24.3 points per game across the four-game stretch.
“She has been an exceptional player for us this season and especially this week. We had two freshmen starting and she was a great leader, stepping up and helping them in practices to prepare,” Brennan said. “Even though she has been scoring a lot, she has still been a selfless player, trying to get other people opportunities and making key decisions in close games.”
In monstrous home wins against Revere (48-29) and Everett (63-38), Flores netted 17 and 21 points, respectively.
Then came the big one. Against Chelsea – on the road, no less – she scored a career-high 35 points in English’s 63-38 win. From there, last Thursday, Flores poured in another 24 points in a 51-48 home win against Medford.
“Great team win,” Brennan said after the narrow escape. “Amara had a great game.”
Next up is a road game in Everett with tip-off set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Amara, good week.
