SAUGUS — East Saugus United Methodist Church (UMC) is helping collect donations for victims of the California wildfires.
The church, located at 83 Chestnut St., is accepting checks that will go directly to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), an organization with a mission to bring humanitarian relief. The global ministry was founded in 1940 to assist with people affected and displaced by World War II.
For several weeks following the devastation wrought by hurricane Helene last September, the ministry offered a food pantry, water, clothing and baby supplies for victims in western North Carolina.
To help those affected by the California wildfires, the East Saugus UMC said that “UMCOR is supporting the efforts of conference disaster response ministries across the region. Evacuees are receiving food and other essential supplies. Trained volunteers are preparing to assist where it is safe to do so.”
UMCOR has awarded solidarity grants to aid in the relief and response efforts due to the destruction caused by the Eaton fire and Palisades fire and continues to donate essential items for those in need.
East Saugus UMC joins other branches of the church across the country that have helped with collecting donations.
You can send donations directly to East Saugus UMC, mail them directly to UMCOR, or give them online or by phone.
