ROUNDUP: St. Mary’s icemen glide by Fenwick

St. Mary’s boys hockey team cruised, 5-0, over traditional archrival Bishop Fenwick. They’re now 10-3-1, 5-1 in the Catholic Central League, and No. 9 in the most recent MIAA Division 1 power rankings.

Cole Alexander recorded his first point, while Matthew Smith Jr. and eighth grader Connor Anderson combined for the shutout.

Joey Calder, Stephen Nason (2 goals), Drew Waters, and Cam Marchand compiled goals, while Marchand, Colton Carpenter, Chase Collins, Finn Racki, Cole Alexander, Jaiden Driscoll, and Jayson Avery delivered assists.

BOYS HOCKEY

Beverly 4
Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott 2

Logan Bowen’s hat-trick lifted the Panthers to victory at Endicott College in Beverly. Ryan Frary and Brandon Barone ripped goals for Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott.

St. John’s Prep 4
Malden Catholic 0

Gavin Anderson scored a power-play goal in the first period and it was all uphill from there for The Prep, which improved to 7-4. Also finding the back of the net were Mason Luciano, Christian Coleman, and Brandon Ward.

Marblehead 2
Masconomet 1

The Headers netted two goals, courtesy of Avin Rodovsky and London McDonald, en route to a one-goal win inside of the Haverhill Valley Forum.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading 6
Medford 0

LoConte Memorial Ice Rink in Medford saw six goals, but none from the home team. PLNR took care of business behind goals from Shirley Whitmore (2), Chloe Gromko, Alexa Pepper, Grace Allen, and Mia Lava.

St. Mary’s 2

St. Mary’s – which held a two-goal lead in the third period – dropped an overtime heartbreaker on enemy ice. Alyssa Norden scored both goals, while Avery Sico was excellent in net for the third consecutive game.

WRESTLING

Wakefield 49
Lynnfield-North Reading 18

Lynnfield-North Reading’s winning streak was snapped after 15 matches, while Wakefield cruised from beginning to end. Winning for the Black and Gold (17-2-1) were Nathan Barstow, Jason Kouyoumdjian, David Glynn, and James Fodera.

TRACK AND FIELD

Lynnfield 34

The Lynnfield girls (2-1) lost their first meet of the season, but not without positive takeaways. Abby Lopez (5:56.55 mile; 13:03.24 2-mile) won both of her races, Allison Maddocks won the long jump (13-5.5), and Clara Caulfield won the high jump (4-8). The group returns to action Tuesday against Amesbury.
