SWAMPSCOTT — The E.F. Gilmore Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans of the North Shore announced yesterday that it will be raising funds to provide aid for veterans affected by the California wildfires.
According to Jeffrey Blonder, commander of the chapter, all funds raised through their efforts will be donated to the DAV Disaster Relief Program. Since it was created in 1968, the program has raised over $19.5 million that has been dispersed to veterans as a result of the DAV’s relief efforts.
“When disaster strikes, DAV and its team of National Service Officers are on the ground to help our nation’s heroes,” Blonder said. “DAV provides relief through financial assistance, as well as supply kits to veterans and their families, so they can obtain basic necessities such as food, warm clothes and shelter.”
He noted that in 2022, the DAV provided a total of $2,052,500 emergency relief drafts and roughly 975 supply kits to the disaster relief program.
“Your gift will help ensure we’re able to continue to support our nation’s heroes during trying times such as these, well into the future,” Blonder said. “Due to a generous benefactor, all contributions will be matched.”
Any resident that would like to contribute can mail a check to the DAV Disaster Relief Fund, c/o E.F. Gilmore DAV, located at 8 Pine St.
