Fun Facts – Hot Topics – Lynn Tech’s James Runner

Joey Barrett

January 23, 2025 by Joey Barrett

James is currently the indoor track and field coach at Lynn Tech. He’s also the head football coach during the fall.

Do you agree with the hiring of Patriots coach Mike Vrabel? “Yes, I agree with hiring Mike Vrabel. He is a good coach, former player, and Hall of Famer.”

Do the Celtics have what it takes to win back-to-back titles? “I think the Celtics have a good team. They are just waiting to turn it on during the playoffs. Let’s go C’s.”

How do you feel about NIL in college sports? “At first, I thought it was a good idea. It’s created a culture similar to free agency, though. There will no longer be a program kid. Athletes are changing schools like socks now. The commitment to a school will be based on NIL money vs. strength of program, in my opinion.”

Could Drake Maye be the starting quarterback of a Super Bowl-winning team? “Drake Maye is a good QB, but he needs to be in a system that showcases his talents. Lamar Jackson is a two-time MVP with no Super Bowl wins. It’s fair to say Drake has some time to develop.”

Why do you think NBA ratings are down 48 percent over 12 years? “Other sports are catching up with the ‘now.’ Hockey’s commercials and games have become more interesting. Plus, NBA stars need to play more. Too many sit out throughout the year and no one wants to watch back-ups. I enjoy watching games, but even last night, Luka (Doncic) was out. Kyrie (Irving) went for 36 points, but Dallas lost a tough one. Decent game, but it would have been better if Luka played.”
