SAUGUS — During the coldest months of the year in New England, staying warm can be a challenge—especially for those without shelter. Recognizing this need, the East Saugus United Methodist Church is organizing a sock drive to provide support for homeless individuals in Lynn.
The church, located at 85 Chestnut St., is collaborating with Grace United Methodist Church in Lynn to carry out this initiative. Together, they aim to collect 2,150 pairs of socks—matching the estimated number of homeless individuals in Lynn. By ensuring that each person in need receives at least one pair, the churches hope to offer some relief during the harsh winter season.
While socks may seem like a small and simple item, they play a crucial role in maintaining warmth and even foot health, especially for those exposed to the elements. Clean, dry socks help prevent frostbite, infections, and other serious health issues that homeless individuals frequently face. Many shelters and outreach programs report that socks are one of the most requested but least donated items.
The sock drive is currently underway, and donations are being accepted at both participating churches. Those who wish to contribute can drop off new pairs of socks at East Saugus United Methodist Church at 85 Chestnut St., in Saugus or at Grace United Methodist Church at 374 Broadway in Lynn.
Community members are encouraged to participate in this meaningful effort. Even a single pair of socks can provide warmth and comfort to someone in need. By working together, residents can help ensure that everyone has a little extra warmth this winter.
