Locals shine in MSTCA Small Schools Invitational

BOSTON — While nobody struck gold, there were several local competitors who turned in strong performances in the annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Small Schools Invitational Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Devin Duval (St. Mary’s), Kelsey Kwiatek (St. Mary’s), and Paige Tredwell (Marblehead) finished runner-up in their respective events – Duval in the boys 55 dash (6.60), Kwiatek in the girls mile (5:16.62), and Tredwell in the girls high jump (5-04).

Eli Mendese (Lynnfield) placed fourth in the boys high jump (6-00), tying his season and personal record. Elise Burchfield (Marblehead) placed fifth in both the girls high jump (5-02) and girls long jump (17-04.50).

Other top finishers in the meet included the following athletes: Ava Machado (Marblehead), eighth in the girls 55 dash (7.49); Clark Roszell (Marblehead), 12th in the boys high jump (5:08); Spencer Reames (Swampscott), 12th in the boys shot put (PR 43-10.25); Marrietta O’Connell (Marblehead), 13th in the girls mile (5:30.92); Ryan Corrigan (Marblehead), 14th in the boys long jump (PR 19-11.50) and Cameryn Dunn (St. Mary’s), 15th in the girls 600 (PR 1:46.20).

The Magicians had two top-10 finishes in the boys 4×800 relay. Henrick Adams, Will Cerrutti, Jacob Szalewicz, and Marc Grazado placed third (8:25.11), while Miles Brown, Anthony Colella, Simon Brown, and Hunter Hersey placed ninth (8:44.18). Marblehead’s 4×400 relay team of Grazado, David Magen, Eben Weed and Slater Johnson finished sixth (3:37.07).  Lucian Paula, Jimmy Jennings, Duval and Rubell Cornelio (St. Mary’s) finished 10th in the 4×400 boys relay.

On the girls side, Marblehead’s Sarah Munroe, Margaret Miller, Zoe Dwyer and Gabrielle Hendy finished eighth in the 4×400 relay (4:23.38) and St. Mary’s Dunn, Lea Deronja, Kwiatek and Isabella Michel finished ninth in the 4×400 relay (4:24.29).
